This book provides examples of entrepreneurial role models and highlights factors that led to the success of entrepreneurs in history. Why did some fail and others succeed? Readers can learn from their experiences. The environment in which they strived contributed to their success or failure. Their personal characteristics were important in overcoming obstacles in their path and contributed to their achievements. Examples of entrepreneurship/invention are provided in nine sets of three chapters each. The first chapter in each set is a profile of an unsuccessful or less successful entrepreneur/inventor, the second chapter is a biographical sketch of one who succeeded where his counterpart failed, and the third chapter is an evaluation of factors that caused one to fail and allowed another to succeed. Topics include production of the automobile, invention of the steamboat and the telephone, introduction of the mainframe computer, the mini-computer, and the personal computer, development of the vulcanisation of rubber, and invention of the airplane and the sewing machine. Also, four profiles provide examples of early failure – late success and of converting failure into success. Determination, motivation, and perseverance were displayed by all of these individuals/teams. Readers can learn from them as they enlighten by example.
