Description

The automotive industry is facing increased ‘productivity-pressure’ as European and US markets are almost saturated. OEMs extend their product ranges in order to hold their market shares. Developing more product variants increases complexity and as a result car manufacturers need to increase the efficiency of their product development projects by reducing cost and shorten time-to- market. Within the development process testing takes a significant portion of the overall product development cost (prototype production, sophisticated test equipment, …). Finding success factors for automotive testing makes a substantial economic potential available for improving also the overall product development process. The author developed a success model in order to identify critical success factors. Information management is one of the key success factors in a test facility. The book also gives an overview of software requirements for IT solutions in order to boost efficiency and effectiveness in test labs. Dr. Gerald Sammer studied Telematics at the University of Technology in Graz where he also made his PhD in economics. At present Sammer is engaged as Global Product Manager for Test Information Management at AVL List GmbH in Austria.
