He is responsible for Marketplace’s New York bureau, and for all coverage of the financial markets. He is the creator of the acclaimed and popular Marketplace Whiteboard, which was a Webby Honoree in 2009. Hirsch has appeared on both public and commercial radio programs commenting on the economy and the financial markets. His Whiteboard work has appeared on PBS programs, and he recently received a Knight Fellowship in Journalism at Stanford University. He provides content to Marketplace’s online presence at marketplace.org, as well as to the Marketplace YouTube site. He spent nearly ten years on Wall Street as a reporter, first for Institutional Investor, as the managing editor of an newsletter that covered the bond markets, and later at Standard and Poor’s, as editor of a newswire covering corporate finance.
