The nonprofit sector plays an important role in our country’s economic landscape, contributing to 5% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the United States (NCCS, 2020). Nonprofit organizations are often seen as a bridge, operating in collaboration with both the private sector and government entities (Shier & Handy, 2020). Nonprofits provide entry points for citizens to engage in their communities, either on a paid or volunteer basis (Mathews, 2020). In addition to serving as the third largest employer, an estimated 64 million adults (or 25% of the population) volunteered at least once in the last year for a nonprofit organization
