Description
This work is an account of various Asian entrepreneurial minorities and their activities – the overseas Chinese in the Philippines and Indonesia, the Parsees in Bombay and China, the spread of the Ismailis from Gujarat to East Africa, and that of the Chettiars from Madras to Burma. The author also draws together material to try and show how various imperial powers came to depend on a variety of such local entrepreneurial minorities to establish their hegemony in Asia.
